Repair the Running Toilet

When toilets in manufactured homes for sale run continuously, they can drive up the water bill and drive you crazy. However, with the proper tools, the issue is simple to fix, without the help of a professional plumber. To fix your toilet, start with the simple solutions below, and move on to the complex ones if needed.

Adjust the Rod

The first thing you need to do is check the chain or rod on the tank flapper. If something has caused the chain links to twist or the rod to bend, you just need to straighten it to allow the flapper to sit properly in the flush tank. If this step stops the water in the tank from running to the bowl, you need not continue with the below steps.

Adjust or Replace the Float

The next thing to check is the float mechanism. You just need to lift the ball and see if it stops the water. If it stops the water from running, you need to bend the float arm using pliers to ensure right buoyancy. If you find that water is present inside the ball, you need to get it replaced with a new one.

Shut Off Water

If none of the above steps stop the water from running, you should shut off the water supply to the toilet to investigate further. After shutting off the supply, flush the tank, and drain it completely. Water can make it difficult to inspect, clean, or replace the parts in manufactured homes for sale.

Clean or Replace the Flapper

The flapper may be damaged, or there may be build up in the valve seat that is preventing the flapper from closing properly, leading to water leak to the toilet bowl. Indeed, if you find that waste build up is causing the issue, you need to lift the flapper up to remove it properly. You may scour the rim and the seat with a sponge to remove buildup.

Replace Flush Valve

It’s possible the flapper is not damaged, or that your issue is still present after you replace it. If this is the case, you may need to replace the flush valve. So, you will need to remove the tank from the bowl completely. After removing the tank, turn it over and remove the plastic nut in the middle of the tank. Now you may remove the flush valve and replace it with a new one.
